I am using quantitative methods to investigate how (primarily 20th Century) authors have attached philosophical meanings to scientific advances in the field of genetics & heredity. The post-DNA protagonist is usually represented as both a highly determined and a highly randomised being: controlled by genes which are selected by chance.
